$99 STATE SETUP — EXISTING PERMIT ONLY
This is not a state registration service.
A one-time $99 fee per state configures your existing sales tax account for AutoFile: state account information, filing frequency, filing credentials, first filing period, prior-provider cutover, and AutoFile configuration.
WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED
SalesTax50 standard plans do not include: new state sales tax registrations, amended returns, historical catch-up filings, Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDAs), tax notice responses, audit representation, detailed nexus consulting or physical nexus analysis, or other professional tax advisory services.
For those services, use your own tax professional — or ask us for a referral to an affiliated CPA firm under a separate engagement and separate fee.
Pricing FAQ
Is $29–49 per return too cheap to be reliable?
AutoFile prepares each return automatically for your review. You approve every filing before it is submitted. Automation keeps our filing costs low without removing human approval — that is the whole reason a return can cost $29–49 instead of $50–75.
TaxCloud can file for free in qualifying SST states. Why pay you?
TaxCloud can offer free SST filing in 24 participating states for eligible remote sellers; eligibility depends on the seller's physical presence and SST requirements. California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois — where most multi-channel sellers owe the bulk of their filings — are not SST members. Run your real state mix through our calculator and compare totals.
Do you handle state registrations?
Standard plans do not include new state registrations. We configure your existing permits for AutoFile ($99 state setup). If you need a new registration, use your own tax professional or ask us for a referral to an affiliated CPA firm under a separate engagement.
Do I approve every return before it is filed?
Yes. SalesTax50 never submits a return without your approval. You review the tax period, gross sales, taxable sales, tax collected and amount due, then approve the filing — every time, for every state.
Do I have to give SalesTax50 my state portal password?
Where a state supports delegated or third-party access we prefer that. Some state portals only allow filing through your own login; for those, credentials are entered by you in States & permits, encrypted and securely stored, never displayed again, and used only to access that state's filing portal for returns you approved. Every access is logged.
What happens if a state changes its portal or rejects a filing?
AutoFile prepares each return against the state's current portal; if a filing can't be completed automatically, it goes to our operations queue and you're notified — you're never charged for a return that isn't filed.
Do zero returns cost the same?
Yes. States require zero returns to be filed on time, and each one is prepared, reviewed and submitted like any other return. (Competitors charge full price for zero returns too — Numeral's is $75.)
Where do I set up tax-exempt products?
In your sales channel, not in SalesTax50. Whether an item is taxed is decided at checkout — Shopify product tax categories, Amazon product tax codes, and the equivalent settings on Walmart, eBay and TikTok Shop control it. SalesTax50 then reports your imported transactions faithfully: sales your channel treated as exempt flow into the exempt/deduction lines of each return. Keeping product taxability settings and exemption/resale certificates correct remains your responsibility (see Terms of Service §8–9).
I run multiple stores/entities.
One login manages all of them on every plan. Each business gets its own subscription sized to its own volume, so a small second brand doesn't pay enterprise prices.
